Nunez Picks Up The Save

AP - 2009-06-29

AP - 2009-06-29

I’m usually very critical of Fredi Gonzalez yet I give him a free pass most of the time due to his hands being tied by a low payroll. His use of the bullpen last night was something I would like to see more often. I’m glad he did not leave Dan Meyer out to absorb a blown save last night and brought Leo Nunez in to wrap up the 4-2 win over the Nats last night.

Also nice to see Bonerface actually contribute to a win for once and Hanley keep up his hot hitting with a 3 hit night. Also nice to see Ricky Nolasco finally regain last seasons form.

Now it’s time for Beinfest and company to make some crafty moves.

Jay Bouwmeester Your Outta Here!

Jay-Bow

It was only a matter of time but the Panthers finally did the inevitable and traded the rights to Jay-Bo to the Calgary Flames for a decent return, but not as much as they could have gotten in return if traded during the season. Here is the haul

Jay Bouwmeester is gone to Calgary as defenseman Jordan Leopold comes to Florida along with the Flames third round pick.

I’ll let George Richards give you his take on this as I have better things to do, such as sit at the pool.

I went to NIN|JA 2009 at the Cruzan on Friday night. In case you didn’t see over on the Photoblog, I have my photoset up from the show.

Overall I got 850+ pictures and widdled them down to a cool 180 plus a few videos. I hope you enjoy them!

Check the individual photos and original resolution shots over on my Flickr page here.

Power Ranking Authors Can Blow It Out There Arse

1
Last Week: 2
Chicago Cubs (5-3)
It didn’t take long for the preseason NL favorite Cubs to move to the top of the rankings, but it also didn’t take long for folks to start rumbling about the closers’ role. Many expected Carlos Marmol to win the job this spring, but Kevin Gregg swiped it by not allowing a run during Cactus League play. Each has made five appearances in 2009, and it may already be time for a change. Gregg has given up four runs, six hits and five walks in just five innings pitched and has blown a save, while Marmol has allowed just two hits and no runs in 4.2 innings pitched and is one-for-one in save opportunities. Cubs manager Lou Piniella says he’s sticking with Gregg — for now.

Last Week: 16
Florida Marlins (8-1)
The Marlins and Braves are both top five teams this week, but the fans must not have noticed. Only 16,293 showed up to watch the Marlins and Braves battle for first place in the series opener at Turner Field on Tuesday. The Fish won 5-1 behind Chris Volstad, who’s now 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA. Those numbers only make him the second-best starter in the Marlins’ increasingly impressive rotation, however, as Josh Johnson also boasts a 2-0 record, but an even more sparkling 0.57 ERA. Some small solace: If the game had taken place in Miami, the crowd would have been even smaller.

Seriously? Of course they have to throw in a shot about the attendance. Get some new material!

Update: You want an even bigger joke, check out the Yahoo! rankings.
