Marlins @ Reds Preview, 12:35 PM EST

Florida (4-9) at Cincinnati (8-6), 12:35 p.m. ET

One of the many lessons that first-year Florida manager Joe Girardi is trying to impress upon his youthful Marlins is how to approach hitting with runners in scoring position.

The Marlins showed signs on Tuesday night that they might actually be listening. In its victory on Tuesday night over the Reds, Florida went 6-for-17 with runners in scoring position. The win gives Florida a chance to win its first series of the season today when the two teams meet in the rubber match of their three-game series at Great American Ball Park.

Quoteable

“We talk to the guys about how they’re going to have to improve in that [situation],” Girardi said. “We tell them that they have to remember that the pressure is on [the other team], not on you. It’s important to get your pitch and do something with it.”
