Johnny Damon Loves the Reefer
Yankees star Johnny Damon is finally opening up about his pot-smoking past.
“It’s part of life, it’s natural, it’s from the earth,” proclaims the slugger, sounding like he’s ready to give praise to Rastafari.
You may remember that Damon’s brother, James, told the Daily News’ Sam Borden this year that he came to blows with 13-year-old Johnny when he came home to find him totally baked.
The MLB star says that his father was more tolerant about his herbal refreshment.
“He’d tell me, ‘If you ever want to experiment with anything, let me know,’” Damon tells Bob Klapisch in the new issue of Men’s Journal. “He smoked a little bit, so he said just let him know. Like, ‘Don’t have me get a call when you’re in jail. If you want to skip school, that’s cool, as long as you get good grades.’”
Damon says his reefer use “was all right” back then, “but you have to grow up sometime.”
The center fielder still likes to party. He was doing shots in his Manhattan hotel with his then Red Sox teammates the night before hitting two home runs to help win 2004’s legendary ALCS.
What’s more, he says, “Girls still come up to me all the time.”
But having famously turned down a pair of female fans who offered themselves to him, he knows where the foul line lies.
His marriage to the mother of his twins, Angie, had already failed when he met Michelle Mangan, now his wife.
Damon recalls Michelle telling him: “If you f- up, I’m out of here. … And I said, ‘That’s cool, that’s the way it should be.’
“I’m already living any guy’s fantasy playing ball.”

By curiosity I did a web search on Michelle Renee Mangan, a girl with whom I slept with on several occasions 10 years ago in Miami… I realised she is now Michelle Damon, wife of Johnny Damon, a baseball star!!! I recognised her as well in the pictures. This is quite funny…Well, she was an interesting character…She was living at the time in Jacksonville, dating at a guy who she liked and was successful and drove a Ferrari according to her (who cares!). I never met him, of course since she was dating him officially…But what a great girl in bed! She loved to talk dirty, moved well in bed, and she is one of the few girls I slept with who really liked it from behind, up in the A$£E! She was nice, but at the end she lied too much…she was a good actress but this double life was tiring me and she was too materialistic for my taste. I could see that she was with me for other reasons than love, and probably for other reasons than sex (even though I would like to think otherwise!). At the end, she was loosing her mind, and even ended up going to meet a guy in Europe, in Portugal I believe, someone she barely knew…! in any case, it is funny to see that people completely idealise her. Good luck to you Michelle for being smart to hide well enough your “wild” past and sorry I was not ready for a serious committment….!
