How About Adding Another Chronic Injury to the Squad?

Let’s face it, the Dolphins have some major holes to fill from the QB position all the way to our kicker. One position that I feel is necessary to address in either free agency or the draft is the Wide Receiver position. I do not believe that Chris Chambers peaked in 2005. He was the subject of a strong armed quarterback who he had a good relationship with. Well what was Daunte then? Daunte is a strong armed quarterback who never formed a good relationship with CC. Another problem with Daunte is the fact his knee never fully healed. Daunte is at his best when scrambling away from pressure and throwing on the run, something he was unable to do without being run down by a defensive end. So the best way to improve our biggest hole, QB, is to upgrade the wide receiver position with a top notch route runner and speed demon. This is something Donte Stallworth can bring to the Dolphins, along with chronic hamstring injuries. Stallworth has made clear his desire to resign with the Eagles, but has no problem moving on and playing for another team…

Asked about other situations, Stallworth said: “There’s New England, obviously being able to play in an organization like that, similar to the Eagles, who have definitely won a lot of games in the past. San Francisco, young and upcoming team, has a good young quarterback [Alex Smith], and Norv Turner is still the offensive coordinator there, that helps… And Miami, the GM there was a guy who drafted me in New Orleans, Randy Mueller, and we’ve always had a real good relationship. But as far as actually picking a team, Philly is definitely No. 1 right now.” In addition to the Mueller tie, Stallworth’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, historically has enjoyed a close relationship with the Dolphins.

Stallworth is a quality receiver who would add speed opposite Chris Chambers. The main problem with Stallworth is his ability to stay healthy for a full season. He has had chronic hamstring injuries throughout his career but thrived last season under an elite quarterback. Donte could help reestablish Daunte’s elite status. Here are the top 20 free agent wide receivers on the market this offseason:

1. Donte’ Stallworth (U) Philadelphia
2. Kevin Curtis (U) St. Louis
3. Drew Bennett (U) Tennessee
4. Ernest Wilford (R) Jacksonville
5. Quincy Morgan (U) Denver
6. Wes Welker (R) Miami
7. Scottie Vines (U) Detroit
8. Justin Gage (U) Chicago
9. Travis Taylor (U) Minnesota
10. Andre Davis (U) Buffalo
11. Drew Carter (R) Carolina
12. D.J. Hackett (R) Seattle
13. Samie Parker (R) Kansas City
14. Terrence Wilkins (U) Indianapolis
15. Bobby Engram (U) Seattle
16. Patrick Crayton (R) Dallas
17. Shaun McDonald (U) St. Louis
18. Troy Brown (U) New England
19. Mike Furrey (U) (Re-signed by Detroit)
20. Dennis Northcutt (U) Cleveland

If there is anyone on this list I feel we need to target ahead of Donte Stallworth it would be Kevin Curtis, Drew Bennett or Travis Taylor. I actually think Curtis would be great alongside Chambers. We also need to make a good attempt to resign Wes Welker and stick him back in the slot.

While I know we need alot, this is the first step, improving our boring offense.
