Daunte Gets Some Help While the Sentinel Gives a Scare

Cam Cameron took another step to finalizing his staff when he hired Terry Shea as quarterbacks coach. If there is one thing Daunte needs on top of a healthy knee is some good guidance. I’m not sure how well Jason Garrett worked with Daunte since Nick Saban never allowed his staff to breathe publicly, but one could imagine what a difficult task it must be to deal with Daunte’s physical and mental problems. Perhaps the Phins need a psychologist as a QB coach. Shea is coming off a job with the Kansas City Chiefs where he was fired last month as QB coach…

Shea, 60, spent five of the previous six seasons as the Chiefs’ quarterbacks coach. He also is a former head coach at San Jose State and Rutgers – where he helped guide quarterbacks Jeff Garcia and Mike McMahon, respectively – and was offensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears in 2004. But the Dolphins perhaps are more interested in Shea’s tutelage of Quinn the past few weeks in Phoenix. Shea was hired by Quinn’s agent, Tom Condon, to work with the former Notre Dame quarterback in preparation for April’s draft.

This hiring is going to lead to speculation that the Dolphins will draft Brady Quinn with the number 9 pick. I’m not sure how everyone feels about our number 9 pick as I haven’t touched on the draft at all, (I am completely dumb when projecting talent and draft picks) but I’ll leave that analysis to The Dude. Let’s just say he would be very happy if we drafted Quinn. I wouldn’t mind drafting a quarterback with the number 9 pick simply to have insurance at the position. At the rate he is going, I do not see Daunte having many years left in the NFL. The Phins eventually have to draft a young QB for the future. Whether that QB should be Quinn is up for discussion. Will there be a better QB available at number 9? What are Quinn’s strength’s and what are his weeknesses? As Joe Rose would say I’m no Mel Kiper Jr Jr. We have many holes that need to be filled and QB is not the top priority as we will have Daunte and Cleo competing for playing time next season. The Dolphins have long been interested in Quinn, and several draft forecasters believe Quinn could fall to the Dolphins, who have the ninth pick. With Shea aboard, the Dolphins will have firsthand knowledge regarding Quinn’s draft value. Either way, I’m pretty sure we will hit on the 9th pick, much better then Saban ever did with our draft.

Leave it up the Sun-Sentinel to print a headline reading our O-Line coordinator position was open. Hudson Houck is not going anywhere!
