Do The Right Thing

Spike Lee said it best in his 1989 motion picture hit. Do The Right Thing. That’s what the Miami Dolphins need to do right about now. I’m of the belief that a kicker is a very important part of the football team. I’m also of the belief that there is no need to throw alot of money into that position. I’m ALSO of the belief that if the man is a drama queen about kicking on dirt, then he should take his act elsewhere. Enter Jay Feely. Today begins the Miami Dolphins offseason workouts and if your wondering why there are two kickers at camp, it’s because the Dolphins haven’t released Olindo Mare yet. Why you ask? Who freakin knows!!! What I want to know is why are we hanging onto Olindo Mare and paying him a roster bonus? Do they really think they can get that much value for Olindo in a trade? Do the man who has been with this organization for 10 years a favor and let him find work somewhere else. It’s bad enough the Phins can’t find a trading parter for him but now he has to report to offseason camp to hang out with the man stealing his job? He might not say it but Jay Feely has to be a tad uncomfortable with the whole situation…

“I totally empathize with Olindo, but I understand that the Dolphins want to do what’s best for the organization, and if they could get a sixth- or seventh-round pick, why not do that?” said Feely, 30.

“I know that Olindo will be reinvigorated and will kick for a long time.”

What I really want to know is if we are hanging onto Olindo for so long in hopes of a late draft pick in return, what the hell did we do with Randy McMichael? Surely we could have snagged a 4th or 5th round pick for him? Hopefully this all turns out ok and the Phins get some compensation and Olindo signs on with a team. Olindo might have wore out his welcome, but he shouldn’t be treated like this.
