Afternoon Marlin Transactions, De Aza Update
The plan has been put into motion, Marlin fans hide your faces because here comes the return of Jorge Julio to the ninth inning. Breaking news from Marlins camp. Henry Owens was placed on the 15 day DL retroactive to May 9th with right shoulder rotator cuff tendinitis. This is a huge blow to an already crippled Marlins pitching staff. Hopefully this is nothing serious and Hank just has a tired arm.
Getting the call up from AAA Albuquerque is outfielder John Gall. The 29 year old was hitting .309/.358/.496 with 3 homeruns in 127 at bats so far this season. Gall played the last 2 seasons in the St. Louis organization. His career line in the majors is .265/.275/.250 with 2 homeruns in 49 at bats. In over 3,000 minor league at bats, Gall is hitting .296/.354/.456 with 90 homeruns and 452 driven in.
De Aza Gets Closer
Mike Berardino from the Sun-Sentinel recently had the chance to speak with Alejandro De Aza and was able to confirm that his progress in recovery has done so well he hopes to take some swings during intrasquad games this weekend in Jupiter with the extended spring group. From Berardino’s blog…
What’s taking so long, De Aza said, is a bone bruise on the inside of his right ankle. His ligament is damaged in three places in that area as well, he said.
Year-end surgery isn’t being discussed, he said, but he’s still wearing a walking boot away from the park just to be on the safe side.
“Next I’ll see how I feel swinging against pitchers, then I’ll try to run the bases,” he said.
Here’s to a quick recovery and return for both Hank and De Aza. Here’s to a soft landing for Julio in the 9th. Hopefully Fredi will go with a committee for now. For those fans that are worried, might I recommend busting back out your “Florida Marlins 7th, 8th and 9th Inning Blindfolds“?
