PreGame Notes

The Florida Marlins head into Washington tonight to start a three game series with the Nationals. The Marlins are coming off a walk off victory against the Dodgers and a solid pitching outing from Sergio Mitre. Tonight starts a three city, 10 game road trip. After three days in Washington, D.C., they will visit Pittsburgh for four days and St. Petersburg for three against Tampa Bay. The Marlins are 4-2 against the Nationals this season, including 2-1 on the road. Scott Olsen, who owns a victory at the Nationals, though he didn’t pitch particularly well, tries to begin this trip in a positive way.

First pitch of the opening game comes from RFK Stadium and starts at 7:05 PM EST.

Pitching Notes

FLA: LHP Scott Olsen (3-2, 4.89 ERA)
Olsen is a career 2-1 against the Nationals with a 3.90 ERA, yet the last time he saw them, on April 20, he yielded five runs on 10 hits in five innings. Olsen is coming off a tough loss to San Diego, in which he gave up four hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Florida Marlins

WAS: RHP Shawn Hill (2-3, 3.00 ERA)
The Canadian-born Hill has been a nice surprise for the Nationals this season, despite a somewhat persistent pain in his pitching forearm. He beat the Marlins in his last outing in South Florida, allowing two runs in six innings. He is 0-2 at home but has a 3.09 ERA.

Player to Watch

With first baseman Mike Jacobs nursing a painful right thumb that may last for some time, Aaron Boone again can show his worth and versatility. Boone filled in for Jacobs on Thursday and doubled in three at-bats. He is hitting a solid .295 with 11 runs scored in just 61 at-bats.
