No Hit For 6+, 5 Games This Season
The Florida Marlins dropped the first game of a three game series against the Washington Nationals. Again the bats were silenced for 6+ innings until Josh Willingham broke up the no hit bid with a blooper to left. It’s getting to the point where I am not rooting for a win, but at least 1 or 2 hits before the 5th inning. It’s amazing to me how the Marlins are tops in the league when it comes to offensive categories but struggled against excellent to good pitching. Big innings and beating down on crappy pitching has led to the anomoly that is the Marlins offensive numbers. The attitude around the orgnazation is much of a concern for me as the hitting itself. Check out some of the post game quotes…
‘There’s no explanation for it,’ Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla said. “It’s one of those things that has been happening lately. We’ve had some tough draws against some tough pitchers, but it’s one of those ruts we have to get out of.
”I told [leadoff hitter] Hanley Ramirez to go up their and get a knock so we won’t have to worry about this,” he joked.
Yeah I got a message for you Mr Uggla. If you keep trying to swing for the fences in every single at bat, you are not going to snap out of this slump you are in. I know your proclaimed yourself a power hitter in the offseason, capable of slamming 30+, but your not and your losing your fundamentals of just driving the ball to the opposite field and in the gaps. This was your bread and butter last year, let’s try to get it back. You can see some of Uggla’s horrible swings in the game recap below.
”It’s just one of those things,” Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “It doesn’t bother me. It’s just something that happens.”
The complacency this team is showing is angering. It doesn’t bother you Fredi? You have no problem your team has been no hit into the 6th inning 5 times this year, most of them being in the span of the last 15 games. I know you’ve proclaimed this team as a free swinging team but perhaps Jim Pressley is getting to much of a free ride here. Anyone else wanting a return of Bill Robinson? Scott Olsen went on to say…
“It’s not my concern [that the Marlins were being no-hit]. That doesn’t affect what I have to do. I have to pitch my game no matter what the offense is doing, but it doesn’t make it any easier when you don’t get the first hit until the seventh inning.”
Someone please give this man some run support and good defense before he starts a fight and hands out black eyes around the clubhouse.
