Fish Health Matter: Big Jake DL Bound With Sore Thumb?

Mike Jacobs might be placed on the disabled list today. Gonzalez said the Marlins will wait and see how Jacobs’ thumb feels, but it’s probable he will go on the DL. Jacobs has been nursing a thumb injury he sustained April 20 when a hard-hit grounder bounced off his left thumb. Gonzalez felt confident enough to start Jacobs on Sunday, but Jacobs left the game in the fourth after striking out twice. Jake’s thoughts

“I didn’t want to go on the disabled list, but I might have to do it,” Jacobs said. “I don’t have enough strength in my lower hand with the protective shield that I’m using to hold the bat without pain. I just can’t grip it firmly.”

So let’s take a count now shall we?

CF – Alejandro De Aza – Ankle – DL
SP – Jose L. Garcia – Elbow – DL
RP – Carlos Martinez – Elbow – DL
RF – Jeremy Hermida – Knee – DL
1B – Mike Jacobs – Thumb – Questionable
RP – Henry Owens – Rotator cuff – DL
CF – Cody Ross – Hamstring – DL
RP – Logan Kensing – Elbow – DL
SP – Josh Johnson – Forearm, biceps – DL

All I have to say is I can’t wait for Hermida to slide into that number 2 spot and for Big Hank to slide back into the closers role.

Perhaps it’s time to fire the strength and conditioning coach? Are the coaches to blame here or are these just some freak injuries?
