Monday Focus: Dolphin Chatter

Time for some weekly Dolphin news. I figured since The Dude has been MIA I’ll keep you sort of in tune and on time with some Phin chatter and news. Here is what we got for ya…
- Jason Allen said he spent too much time last season worrying about where to be on the field. The guesswork has been removed. Allen can now focus on his natural position, cornerback. ”It takes a huge load off of him and allows him to go out and be the athlete that he is,” Dolphins cornerback Travis Daniels said. As for the new secondary philosophy, Allen calls it ”black and white” compared to Saban’s defense, which “had a lot of gray areas.”
That’s great news from our boy Jason Allen who I felt was a complete waste of a draft pick last season. I figured Nick Saban’s obsession for SCC players ruined yet another high draft pick. I look forward to seeing Jason out with the starters this season.
- Dolphins starting strong safety Yeremiah Bell, an unsigned restricted free agent, said late Sunday night that he’ll sign a one-year contract to remain with the team.
- Having taken what he describes as “small steps” in his ongoing recovery from knee surgery, Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper practiced Friday on a limited basis. While he didn’t participate in team drills at the “organized coaching sessions,” Culpepper was involved in other quarterback work that saw him taking drops and firing short passes to receivers. The workouts are essentially scaled-down versions of minicamp practices, with each NFL team allowed 14 in the offseason.
- Ronnie Brown said some of his Dolphins teammates were “shocked” when news surfaced last week that fellow running back Ricky Williams failed a drug test for marijuana. Brown, though, said Williams isn’t a regular topic of conversation in the locker room.
Good for them not worrying about this albatross. The supporting and backing of RW the last couple of seasons was just getting ridiculous. It’s time to move on and worry about the job at hand. Winning with what we have.
- Defensive end Matt Roth (groin), nose tackle Keith Traylor (ankle), running back Patrick Cobbs (hamstring) and tackles Joe Toledo (foot) and Anthony Alabi (knee) were held out of Friday’s practice but are expected back for the June minicamp. … Coach Cam Cameron said starting cornerback Andre’ Goodman, who had shoulder surgery last week, wasn’t expected to return until training camp. … Defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday, cornerback Will Allen and safeties Cameron Worrell and Travares Tillman missed the practices for personal reasons.
- Kansas City quarterback Trent Green is reportedly prepared to take another step toward maneuvering his way onto the Dolphins’ roster. The NFL’s web site reported Wednesday night that Green is set to attend Kansas City’s upcoming OTA (Organized Team Activity) sessions that begin Monday. The Chiefs cannot bar Green from participating in the OTAs, which are scaled-down versions of minicamp practices, and would have to guarantee his 2007 base salary of $7.2 million if he suffered a season-ending injury during a session.
