Daunte Speaks, Demands For Release

Acting as his own agent, Daunte Culpepper issued another email to the local media explaining his reasons for demanding a release from the Miami Dolphins. Without naming the evil one Dick Satan, Daunte explains how Dolphins management rushed him back too soon last season. Harvey Fialkov reports via the Sun-Sentinel

“I must say the impatience the organization displayed in both encouraging me to rush back on the field last year and then rushing me out the door this year is disappointing,” Culpepper wrote. “However, I understand that they have the right to make that business decision. It is now my turn to make some decisions.”

“I feel it is necessary to obtain a release rather than seek a trade so that I would not bring the excess baggage of my present contract to a new team,” he said. “I feel like my next team should have the opportunity to get to know me as a man and a player before they make any long-term commitment.”

Culpepper also said that he wasn’t given a fair opportunity to win the starting job even before the April draft because of, “established relationships,” already formed.

No need to get all huffy puffy on us D. Honestly, I feel bad for DC. It’s not his fault he got injured, it’s not his fault he was rushed back last year and it’s not his fault Nick Saban picked him over Drew Brees in the first place.

I really hope wherever Daunte lands he revives his career. I’ve been a fan of his since his UCF days when he used to scamper all over the field throwing TD’s.

I never asked in an earlier post, would you guys have wanted to see a fair battle for the starting QB?

Update: According to Alex Marvez’s Sun-Sentinel blog, as of 7:47 a.m., Culpepper is still on the Dolphins roster but it’s believed General Manager Randy Mueller will either release or trade him before practice begins.
