Let’s Try To Make Up for That Blunder of a Trade Eh?
You want some good news regarding the Florida Panthers? They will be active this offseason when it comes to free agency and they are not going to improve there marketing strategy for the team, but actually improve the team itself. One of the worst trades in South Florida sports went down last season that is still leaving a sour taste in even non hockey fans mouths. Now mind you this deal wouldn’t have been so bad if Todd Bertuzzi hadn’t been injured a handful of games into the season. Oh who am I kidding, this was still a bad deal, even with Eddie Belfour playing an excellent stopper for most of the season. One of the key targets the Florida Panthers will be looking at is current Stanley Cup finalist Jean-Sebastien Giguere. On Frozen Pond blog explains what it would take, if the Ducks let him walk, to get Giggy into a Cats uniform…
With Giguere to demand a boost from his $4 million salary (look for him to start negotiations at $6 million per), the Ducks may say they are happy with Ilya Bryzgalov ($1 mil this year) as their No. 1. Why not? He’s proved he can do the job and deserves a shot somewhere (the Ducks could sign Giguere and trade Bryzgalov, but Bryz is a bargain so they might as well keep him.)
George Richards also goes on to mention how other teams like Tampa Bay, Montreal, Detroit, Los Angeles and Boston have all expressed interest. If there is one thing that the Panthers have that others teams don’t…it’s a major amount of money to spend. Richards mentions the Cats are going to be very active once the Stanley Cup ends, with goalie being a top priority.
