Locked Up: Horton Inked to 6-Year Deal
The Panthers took yet another step in bolstering their young core of players, this time signing fan favorite Nathan Horton to a 6 year contract. Horton is still a 22 year old foward and is entering his prime. The deal is pretty much complete but is pending the approval of the NHL office. George Richards reports in the Herald…
The Panthers confirmed they agreed to terms with Horton, although the NHL needs to approve the deal. Canadian all-sports network TSN reports the contract is worth $24 million. A team spokesman said coach and general manager Jacques Martin was in a team meeting preparing for the upcoming NHL Draft at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. Martin will address the South Florida media later Thursday afternoon.
Horton, Florida’s first-round pick (third overall) in 2003, had a career-high 31 goals with 31 assists last season. In three seasons, Horton has played in 208 games and has 73 goals with 58 assists.
Excellent move! I’m now looking forward to the free agent movement for the Panthers.
