Friday Rumor Mill: Fish Targeting Dukes or Bradley?

I think rumors are fun. I also think they get a pretty bit out a control in every sport. As we approach the trade deadline the MLB hot stove really heats up and the feeling among the Marlins is the Fish will be buyers and not sellers. Every Friday I will break down all the rumors floating around the net.

  • The A’s recently designated Milton Bradley for assignment and rumors are swirling that Billy Beane is currently working on a deal. Bradley remains a very useful center fielder when he’s able to play, so a number of teams should pursue him. At least at this moment, he is relatively healthy. The Marlins and Cardinals could have interest.
  • Problem child Elijah Dukes is either going to be given away for nothing or released from his current team the Devil Rays. Dukes has so much upside as a potential stud in this league if he could get his head straight. Dukes could be a centerpiece in centerfield for the next 5-10 years. Would the Fish bite? The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the Marlins have Dukes on the radar if they can get him for little. Any breathing reliever might do the trick. If the Marlins think, for some reason, that they can alleviate Dukes’ off-the-field issues, it could be a fantastic example of buying low.
  • The Marlins could show interest in recently released Brady Clark. Clark is in the final year of a two-year, $7 million contract, so no one wanted to trade for his salary. Now that he’s a free agent, he should be popular. The Marlin’s are believed to show interest.

Any specific player or position you think the Fish should be targeting as the trade deadline approaches?
