Quick Hits: Marlins/Twins Game 3

Today marks the third of a nine-game, 10-day homestand against the Twins (1-1), Pirates (3g) and Braves (3g). The Fish went 3-3 on their last trip to Kansas City (1-2) and Chicago-AL (2-1). They went 2-4 on their last homestand against Tampa Bay (1-2) and Cleveland (1-2). After this homestand, the Fish will start a seven-day trip to San Diego (July 2-5) and Los Angeles-NL (July 6-8), then they will have a four-day All-Star Break from July 9-12.

GIVING THAT EXTRA EFFORT

Florida has recorded at least one extra-base hit in all but two games this season. They lead the NL with 262 extra-base hits, second in MLB behind the Tigers (291). Dan Uggla and Matt Holliday are tied for the NL lead with 44 XBH, tied with Curtis Granderson for third-most in MLB behind Magglio Ordonez (47) and Alex Rodriguez (45).

ARRRRRRR, ON DECK THE PIRATES

The Marlins and Pirates begin a three-game series Tuesday at Dolphin Stadium. The teams split a four-game set in Pittsburgh from May 14-17. The Fish are 56-67 (33-24 home) all-time against the Bucs, including 2-2 (0-0 home) this season. The Marlins have won their last 3g and are 13-5 the last 18x the teams have met in Miami.

With Johan Santana throwing today for the Twinkies, expect Mike Jacobs to get a rest and Aaron Boone to slide back into 1st. It will be interesting to see what other changes we have in today’s lineup with Johan going.
