David Samson Doesn’t Give a Crap About Your $100 Million Dollar Contract
Even though an announcement hasn’t been made official yet it is well known that 2007 All-Star Game MVP Ichiro Suzuki is on the verge of signing a 5 year extension worth close to 100 million dollars. Ichiro is 33 and has put up spectacular numbers since coming to the United States and probably deserves this contract extension. Florida Marlins president and everyones favorite troll was recently on The Dan Lebatard Show on 790 The Ticket and had some choice words about the new contract. When asked about the dollar amount. Here is what he had to say…
“I would say its the end of the world as we know it. If Ichiro is worth 20 million a year I am speechless by that contract. I am hoping that report is false.”
“Ichiro who has led his team to nothing, I hope your wrong Dan.” “It’s unbelievable”
This coming from our idiot President says this to me. Cabrera, be prepared to move your family out of South Florida because your not staying here. Look, it’s pretty obvious by now that the Marlins management is preparing the fans for the inevitable with these comments. There is no way Cabrera, who is likely to command upwards of 20 million a year, is going to resign with the Marlins while A) Jeffrey Loria still owns this team or B) We do not land a new stadium deal. The Marlins will continue to reap the benefits of revenue sharing and laugh in the faces of teams like the Mariners who lock up key players and superstars to longterm contracts.
The funny thing is I can picture Presidents and owners across the land sitting back and laughing at the audio below. I don’t know what’s more asinine the fact that Samson doesn’t agree with the contract or the fact he has never seen an episode of the The Simpsons.
Your thoughts and enjoy the audio. The key parts start at 3:45 into the interview.

Doh! Sounds from that interview that Samson is as knowledgeable about the Simpsons as he is about baseball. I don’t know whether Ichiro is worth $20mln or not, but it certainly doesn’t matter to Samson because his preference would be to scout McDonalds for prospects in the hope he can sign them for minimum wage.

The cheapness of this organization was shown during the negotiations with Jacques Jones. The Marlins were asking the Cubs to pickup pretty much 90% of his contract. Even the commissioner couldn’t let that one go through.
If the Marlins keep expecting teams to help them succeed by paying for players contracts or giving away talent for less money they are surely mistaken.
Cabrera will demand Pujols type money and apparently Samson feels he isn’t worth it. There are 29 other teams who disagree with Samson.

Well maybe 28 teams. Here’s to ya, Tampa Bay!

Carl Crawford and his affordable contract agree!

I respectfully disagree with any article that doesn’t mention my Pirates as the most money grubbing, greedy franchise in MLB.

Totally off topic, but the talk of cheap unscrupulous owners had me thinking of the great HBO special last night; Brooklyn Dodgers/The Ghosts Of Flatbush. Even if you’re not old enough to remember Jackie Robinson, the post-war Dodgers, through the situations that had them leave Brooklyn for CA in 1957, I think you’ll really enjoy this piece of baseball history. I’m sure it will be repeated many times.

Damn I forgot that was on last night. I have to remember to catch the replay of that. Thanks!

I’m not just playing devil’s advocate here, I think Samson is right on. Does anyone honestly think he’s gonna be earning that 40 million when he’s 37 and 38?
He’s having an awesome season when he’s up for an extension? Wow, that’s never happened before.
The Mariners are killing their and the rest of the league’s ability to do smart business.
It’s a seriously retarded deal.

I think I am more upset at the fact David Samson is laying the ground work to trade Miguel Cabrera and not his comments about Ichiro. David Samson is a leech and only has a position in this organization b/c he is Loria’s stepson.
