Health Matter: JJ Rehabs and Hanley Hits Soft Toss
Couple of early morning health updates for our walking wounded Fish…
Josh Johnson delivered three shutout innings, retiring all nine hitters he faced, before a rain delay cut short his rehab start Wednesday with Single A Jupiter. But it remains unclear when Johnson, who is on the disabled list with a strained right forearm, will be ready to rejoin the Marlins rotation.
Aaron Boone figures he is at least two to three weeks away from returning. Boone, who has spent a month on the disabled list with a sprained left knee, is gradually working his way back into shape.
The Marlins are taking it slowly with shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who is nursing a partially dislocated shoulder. Ramirez fielded ground balls and ran Wednesday. But he hasn’t swung a bat since injuring the shoulder Sunday, when he swung and missed in the first inning. Gonzalez said Ramirez would hit soft-toss pitching inside the cages this afternoon, after which the decision will be made whether to allow him to participate in batting practice with his teammates.
