Confirmed: Smush Parker Signs with Miami Heat
Looks like the rumors proved to be true and the Miami Heat have made their first “splash” (and I use that term very loosely) in free agency as they have inked ex Los Angeles Lakers guard Smush Parker to a 2 year contract with a portion of the Heat’s mid level exception. Barry Jackson provides the details…
The Heat concluded its nearly month-long search for a veteran point guard Friday when it agreed to terms with guard Smush Parker, two sources said. Parker started most of the past two years for the Lakers before losing his starting job late last season.
Parker, who essentially replaces free agent Gary Payton on the Heat’s roster, is expected to back up Jason Williams, who has one year left on his contract at $8.9 million. Williams missed 44 games the past two seasons with knee problems and other ailments.
I’m sorry people but this is pathetic. Something is going on within the organization if the only free agent we can convince to slide down to Miami is Smush Freakin Parker. The same Smush Parker my own mom used to laugh at when we watched the Heat/Lakers on Christmas Day.
I’m really interested to hear what you guys think. Perhaps the sky isn’t falling yet but there are 2 pound toads starting to fall.

The problem is our cap situation, not that we can’t convince people to come down here (because we can convince people to come here. Marc Stein still insists that Mo Williams was on the brink of signing with us until the Bucks upped their offer to 50 mil).
You can’t expect the organization to work miracles when they’re only armed with the mid level.
Personally, I like this pick up. He’s probably the best remaining free agent PG (which isn’t saying much, I know) and we got him at a reasonable price. He’ll be a decent back up for Jwill.
