Evening Cabrera Update – Dodgers Sneak Ahead

Back and forth, back and forth. That’s where the Miguel Cabrera headlines seem to keep going on an hourly basis. It looks like we are getting closer to saying goodbye to Cabrera and welcoming in the “next wave” of Marlins any day now. Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Dodgers appear to be the frontrunner to land Miggy with only “one piece” standing in the way. It appears (and this is not confirmed) this is the deal the Dodgers have on the table…

The Dodgers stand a better chance of acquiring Cabrera from the Marlins, major-league sources say, if they are willing to part with outfielder Matt Kemp along with third baseman Andy LaRoche and minor-league left-hander Clayton Kershaw.

Now what I’m thinking is “standing in the way” is the Marlins want Chad Billingsley with whom the Dodgers will probably not part with. I think the deal of Kemp, LaRoche and Kershaw is more than enough to get it done and I would be happy with that.

In Beinfest we trust.

Update: Rosenthal updated his column as of 20 minutes ago…

Miguel Cabrera could be traded by Thanksgiving if one of the Los Angeles-based teams jumps. The Angels continued pushing for a deal Tuesday, major-league sources say, and the Dodgers continued balking at the Marlins’ price. Both teams are one player away from completing a trade, the sources say, and the White Sox and Indians remain on the fringes of the Cabrera sweepstakes. The Marlins want both outfielder Matt Kemp and Class AA left-hander Clayton Kershaw included in a four-player package from the Dodgers. From the Angels, the Marlins are insisting upon second baseman Howie Kendrick and possibly Class AA right-hander Nick Adenhart in a similar four-player return. The Dodgers, according to a source, are wary of giving up both Kemp, a potential 30-homer, 30-stolen base man, and Kershaw, a potential No. 1 or 2 starter, for Cabrera, whose weight and lifestyle concerns many clubs.
