Miggy Watch 2007 – Angels Deal Could Lead to More?

In case you were living under a rock yesterday and missed the news, the Chicago White Sox traded Jon Garland to the Angels for gold glove shortstop Orlando Cabrera. Alot of people are speculating that a deal like this could lead to a deal with the Marlins for Miguel Cabrera. The fact the Angels dealt their gold glove shortstop for starting pitching could lead to the deal that lands them Miguel Cabrera for a bounty of major league ready talent and prospects. The guys over on Angelswin.com have sources that say this could get done very shortly. Here’s the scoop…
The Angels have been active in trade talks for Florida’s Miguel Cabrera and this could signal they are close. Depending on the players that go to Florida – second baseman Howie Kendrick, Reggie Willits, Jeff Mathis, right-handed top Prospect Nick Adenhart and either lefty Joe Saunders or Ervin Santana have been rumored, while Jered Weaver could be dealt in a larger deal that would send Dontrelle Willis along with Miguel Cabrera to Anaheim.
Not sure who out of that package I would choose but if D-Train is included to make this a blockbuster deal, Jered Weaver would have to be part of any package as well as Kendrick, Wood and Willits. Not sure who the Marlins FO is high on but we know they insist on Kendrick being part of any deal. Angelswin explains that new GM Tony Reagins is ready and willing to make a splash with the fans so it should not be considered far fetched if Angel fans think they are overpaying for a stud like Cabrera.
Update: Perfect timing. MLBTR has a new Miguel Cabrera post up and collects all the up to date info on the Cabrera derby. Nothing we don’t already know.
