Big Tuna to the Falcons…Dolphins?
As recently as an hour ago all reports pointed towards Bill Parcells signing a deal to become the next Vice President of the Atlanta Falcons. Tuna was set to meet Arthur Blank in New York to finalize a deal that was put together by the Falcons. Just why did Parcells decline? According to Arthur Blank, Tuna is reviewing a revised offer by the Miami Dolphins. From the Atlanta Journal Constitution…
Prior to the information becoming public, we had reached an agreement in principle with Parcells, and we met with him this morning to complete the contract. At that time, we were made aware by Parcells that he was considering a revised offer from the Miami Dolphins. He later informed us that he would not be signing a contract with us.
Can anyone else say hell yes? Bill Parcells would work wonders in this front office and could possibly sway his Patriot friends to join him in Miami. I feel Tuna has always been overrated as a head coach and underrated as a front office guy.
Stay tuned for updates.
Update: Miami Herald got this one. One source with knowledge of the situation is telling The Herald Parcells’ agent, Jimmy Sexton, is negotiating with the Dolphins. The source would not say how close Parcells might be to joining the Dolphins, if at all.
Update 4:56: The Miami Herald reports Bill Parcells and the Dolphins are “entering the final stages” of talks to make him a member of the organization’s front office.
Update 9:28: Armando has the scoop. The Bill Parcells deal is done. It is for four years according to a source. Hank Goldberg of WQAM radio in Miami tells me that his sources say Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga has agreed NOT to sell the Dolphins for the four years so he could land Parcells. The Dolphins are expected to introduce Parcells before the end of this week, barring a last-minute glitch in negotiations.
