Henry Owens Suspended 50 Games

Relief pitcher Henry Owens has been suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for a performance enhancing drug. Owens has been out since 2007 with shoulder problems. Owens was fantastic before going on the DL back in 2007. Naturally, the Marlins are not happy about the suspension…

“We are disappointed that Henry Owens received a positive test, and fully endorse the discipline outlined in the MLB policy,” said Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest. “We will continue to work with and educate our players to help prevent any further violations.”

Chances are Owens was using the PED to help with his recovery from shoulder problems. When baseball is all you know and your only way to make money, I can understand the need to rush back from an injury. I’m pretty sure Owens would have not been ready to start the season anyways but this just adds a black eye to his career.

I don’t know. It seems you just can’t teach some of them anything. Maybe it should be 100 games. Make the point. (And they have to sell cotton candy in the stands for the 100)
