The fine folks over at The Phinsider have put together a nice list of awards for the 2006 Miami Dolphins season. Regardless of how bad our season was there were still some bright spots to be proud of. The Phinsider does a nice job of breaking these down although I would disagree with there most exciting game of the year as I felt the Bears game was much more exciting. Read for yourself. Here is an excerpt…
Most Crushing Defeat of the Season: Week 16 vs NY Jets. Christmas night, at home, against the hated Jets, in a pouring rain. Had all the makings of a great win. However, it turned into a truely crushing defeat. It was 3-0 Jets after 3. However, the 4th quarter would bring some offense. The Dolphins took a 7-3 lead less than 2 minutes into the 4th quarter. However, the Jets would bounce right back on the next drive, taking a 10-7 lead on a TD pass from Pennington to Cotchery. The next drive, Cleo Lemon drove the Dolphins down to the Jets 7 yard line, where they faced a 4th and 1 with just over 2 minutes left. Rather than going for it, Saban opted for a field goal and it was tied at 10. However, the very next play from scrimmage, Leon Washington took a short pass from Pennington and turned it into a huge 64 yard gain, setting up Mike Nugent for the game-winning field goal. It still hurts to talk about it!
