Devils @ Panthers Game Highlights
The Bank Atlantic Center was packed with fans and rocking for a hockey night in Florida. The Panther’s Paint Krew was out in full force last night and even their excitement and energy couldn’t help the Cats. What they got was a sloppy effort from the playoff hopeful Cats, who let 2 points slip away from one of the best in the league. Martin Brodeur wasn’t on his A game tonight and the Cats could not take advantage as they saw their playoff hopes dwindle in a 4-3 loss in a shootout. I said to my buddy who I went to the game with that this game has to be won in regulation or overtime, because Marty would not allow the Cats to win in a shootout, and boy was I right.

On the Panthers side of the puck Florida went up 1-0 on Jokinen’s 36th goal at 12:18 of the first. Jokinen sent the puck over Brodeur’s left shoulder from just above the left circle. He has nine points (five goals, four assists) in four games. Stephen Weiss made it 2-0 when he rebounded a miss by Martin Gelinas that glanced off a Devils defender and put it in from the left side at 9:25 of the second period. They broke a 2-2 tie on a goal by Peltonen just 2:31 into the third period. Peltonen gave Florida a short-lived lead when he rebounded the puck into the empty left corner of the net after Brodeur made a pad save on Chris Gratton.
Florida’s Ville Peltonen and New Jersey’s Zach Parise each scored in the first round of the shootout, but Nathan Horton failed on the Panthers’ chance in the second round. Florida captain Olli Jokinen then fired wide on his club’s final attempt.
Stephen Weiss summed up the Panther’s play last night…
“Sure (they were desperate),” Weiss said of New Jersey. “That’s what they’re about. … When we start being fancy and not getting the puck out of our zone that’s when we get into trouble. We had two leads and one two-goal lead, and at this level those have to be pretty much automatic and especially in the position we’re in.
Game photos are available in the SporTech Gallery and video clips from the game can be found on the SporTech YouTube page. I was messing around with some new settings on my camera so some pictures should be better. Hey, I’m a blogger, not a professional photographer!
Enjoy and have a great Sunday.
I said I was worried about this Hawks game last night and the Heat sure did alot to make me sit on the edge of my seat, but they managed to pull out an 8 point win, continuing their rise up the Eastern Conference standings. Stepping up last night folks was Jason Williams and Michael Doleac, who was given the official MHW Beer of the Game for stepping up all night while the Big Foul Problem was in foul touble all night. Make sure you check out the Michael Doleac posterization in the highlight reel. It’s quite something. Let’s check the score breakdown and video highlights…
Yesterdays Games
- Miami Heat 91, Atlanta Hawks 83 - Jason Williams had 21 points and eight assists, and the Miami Heat beat the Atlanta Hawks 91-83 Wednesday night for their 10th victory in 11 games. Eddie Jones finished with 14 points, including a pair of free throws that made it 89-80. James Posey, Udonis Haslem and reserve center Michael Doleac scored 10 points apiece. With O’Neal in foul trouble most of the game, the Heat used Doleac for 21 minutes, the most he has played since Jan. 30.
Todays Games
- Florida Marlins at St Louis Cardinals, 1:05 PM 560 WQAM - After a day off on Wednesday, the Marlins return to action this afternoon against the Cardinals at 1:05 ET. Follow each pitch live on 560 WQAM as Opening Day stater Dontrelle Willis takes on the defending World Series champions.
- Ottawa Senators (43-23-8) at Florida Panthers (31-29-13), 7:30 PM FSNFL - Ending a long scoreless streak against one of the Eastern Conference’s best teams also could go a long way toward the Florida Panthers making their first playoff appearance in seven years. The Panthers (31-29-13) will try to end their goal-scoring drought against the Ottawa Senators and avoid a season-series sweep as the two teams meet on Thursday night.
Small Site Note: Sorry for the downtime yesterday evening. Had a small database problem that has been resolved and everything is back to normal. SporTech should be running smooth like butta!
Enjoy your Thursday!

The Cats picked up a big win last night to sweep the season series with the Flyers. Olli Jokinen is playing like a man possessed right now. If only the Panthers could get off to a hot start early in the season, we wouldn’t have to race to the 8th. Let’s check the score breakdowns with video highlights…
Yesterdays Games
- Washington Nationals 3, Florida Marlins 0 - Alfredo Amezaga and Dan Uggla singled in the eighth inning, but with the bases loaded, the Marlins couldn’t score. Eric Reed and Matt Treanor had back-to-back singles in the second inning. The Marlins didn’t collect their third hit until Josh Willingham’s two-out single in the sixth inning.
- Florida Panthers 4, Philadelphia Flyers 1 - Olli Jokinen and the Florida Panthers can’t afford a letdown, even against the worst team in the NHL. Jokinen broke a second-period tie, and Nathan Horton and Juraj Kolnik added late goals to lead Florida to a 4-1 victory over Philadelphia on Tuesday night that completed the Panthers’ first four-game season sweep of the Flyers.
Todays Games
- Miami Heat (36-30) at Atlanta Hawks (27-41) - The Miami Heat have improved their standing in the Eastern Conference playoff race, even without star guard Dwyane Wade. While Wade continues to rehabilitate his dislocated left shoulder, the Heat look to start a new winning streak when they visit the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. Miami had its nine-game win streak snapped with a 97-83 loss to Orlando on Sunday that also ended its run of 14 consecutive home victories. Both streaks were the longest in the NBA.
Personally I’m worried about tonights Heat (trap) game. The Hawks have been playing much better ball lately. The Heat should win this game easily after a two day layoff. Hopefully the right Heat team shows up tonight.
Have a nice day and GO HEAT!
I could have sworn while watching the Heat game last night I was hearing the strangest thing coming from the croud at the AAA. Everytime Antoine Walker stepped up the three point line the whole crowd was screaming, “No!”. This could have been my imagination but it had me cracking up during the Heat’s 14 point fourth quarter comeback last night. Let’s check the score breakdown…
Yesterdays Games
- Florida Marlins 4, Baltimore Orioles 1 - Miguel Cabrera says his first home run of spring training wasn’t personal, even though it bounced on the balcony outside general manager Larry Beinfest’s office beyond the left-field wall at Roger Dean Stadium. “It sounded good. It felt great,” Cabrera said after his three-run homer helped the Florida Marlins beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-1 Tuesday.
- Carolina Hurricanes 3, Florida Panthers 1 - John Grahame has been forced into a starting role in the middle of a playoff race. He’s up for the challenge. Grahame made 26 saves to help lead the Hurricanes to a 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night and into eighth place in the Eastern Conference. He’s playing after a knee injury sidelined starter Cam Ward, last year’s Conn Smythe winner.
- Miami Heat 88, Utah Jazz 86 - Antoine Walker hit a long 3-pointer in the final minutes, then turned and urged the Miami Heat crowd to calm down. “They get a little antsy sometimes,” Walker said. “But it’s cool. I like it. It’s fun. Makes it more exciting.” In the end, Walker made sure those fans went home happy. He scored all 13 of his points in the final 11 minutes, and the streaking Heat erased a 17-point second-half deficit to beat the Utah Jazz 88-86 on Tuesday night.
Todays Games
- Florida Marlins at Baltimore Orioles, 1:05 Roger Dean - A day after Anibal Sanchez shut down the Orioles, Scott Olsen gets his chance on Gameday Audio as the Marlins travel to Fort Lauderdale today to take on Baltimore at 1:05 p.m. ET. The O’s plan to send Jaret Wright to the hill.
Hope everyone has a great day. New feature I am bringing to you as of yesterday. Highlight packages for all Heat wins. Just click the black video link above and enjoy an action packed highlight reel from last nights game. You can now expect this for any Heat victory.
