Sunday Link Dump

AP 2009-03-19
The Panthers are doing everything they can to stick around and sneak into the playoffs. It doesn’t look like this year is the year and the Panthers organization may be giving out quite a few free tickets next year. Let’s get to the link dump…
- Speaking of the Cats. Raffi Torres scored twice late in the third period to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Saturday night. Torres scored his first goal of the night with 2:46 remaining in the third. He tied it at 1 and ruined Florida goalie Tomas Vokoun’s bid for his seventh shutout of the season.
- The Marlins got good news Saturday: Commissioner Javier Souto, who had been leaning against supporting the stadium project, said he now leans toward voting yes in Monday’s final Miami-Dade County Commission vote. If that’s the case, there will not be enough no votes to kill the project, barring a last-minute surprise. ”I think it will pass,” Souto said.
- A good sign: Dwyane Wade, eligible for free agency in 2010, loves playing for Erik Spoelstra. Besides ”doing an unbelievable job of keeping guys fresh,” Wade said, ”the thing that’s been surprising to me is how he hasn’t been the guy that loves to hear his own voice in practice every day. He makes it efficient. Sometimes young coaches like to hear their own voice and make the day longer.” And Wade likes that Spoelstra “is not a yeller. Once you have the respect of guys, you don’t have to yell. And everybody on the team respects him.”
- Last night Shaq proclaimed he would Twitter from his locker during half time of his game last night.
Attention all twitterers I’m a tweet at halftime and not get fined like vill a new wave a whteva his name is. about 16 hours ago from TwitterBerry
Shhhhhhh about 11 hours ago from TwitterBerry
And he did just that.
- Tony McDaniel passed his physical Friday, making his trade from the Jaguars to the Dolphins official. McDaniel wound up on injured reserve in December, so Miami made the trade contingent on his passing a physical.

Sunday Link Dump – You Want to Play Horse?
Awesome triple OT performance out of D-Wade last night. I missed most of the game due to the fact I went to see The Watchmen. Who watches the Watchmen? I watch em. What a great flick. The story stayed true to the novel and I found alot of the dialogue was word for word from the novel. I highly recommend seeing the movie and if you haven’t read the novel, check that out before you see the movie. Anyways, here is the link dump for Sunday.
- D-Wade and Lebron James seem to go back and forth every night trying to outdo one another. In last night’s victory, D-Wade wanted that triple double. At the same time he set the Heat’s all time scoring lead by passing Alonzo Mourning when he hit 20 points.
- The Panthers may have inspired a city with a playoff run but poor shootout play this season has doomed the Panthers in talking that next step towards a top hockey team. It was apparent in last nights shootout loss to the Lightning. Florida has lost three in a row for the first time since the end of 2008. The Panthers have given up third-period leads in two of those games and are 24-1-3 when leading after two periods.
- Hey look Dolphins fans. The Patriots made yet another shrewd move in making themselves the “Team to Beat” in the AFC East this year by signing veteran wide receiver Joey Galloway. I’m sure he will find a way to torch or corner backs. Hey, we signed Eric Green.
- The Puerto Rico whipped out the mercy rule on Team USA last night at Dolphin stadium. Continuing their torrid run from Round 1, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado and a potent Puerto Rico lineup took turns bashing San Diego’s 2007 Cy Young Award winner in a game that needed the mercy rule to stop the American’s bleeding. 11-1 was the final score.
- I never wish for a guy to lose his job, but I have wished for a while this New Yorker would shut his mouth. 790 The Ticket has dropped morning host Sid Rosenberg, several industry officials said Friday afternoon. Station manager Howard Davis declined to explain Rosenberg’s departure but said it has nothing to do with drugs, alcohol or gambling.
Mourning talked to Wade after the game, and the recently retired center praised Wade: ”He’s been proud of me, period, but he said if anyone was going to break it, he wanted it to be me,” Wade said.
