Matter Around the Water Cooler – D-Wade, Step up Young Man

Couple of blurbs from around the internets…

  • Left-hander Dontrelle Willis expects to make his start tonight, even though his pregnant wife could deliver the couple’s first child today. Willis’ wife had a false alarm two weeks ago while he was in Houston.
  • The Dolphins’ recent firing of running backs coach Bobbie Williams may have been tied to Ronnie Brown showing up to minicamps overweight. Brown also fumbled during one of the practice sessions. Defensive tackle Manny Wright showed up weighing 345; his target weight was 330.
  • Dwyane Wade says he’s playing hurt right now and is not a full strength, while Pat Riley says that Wade, who was torched by Luol Deng in Game 1, has to do a much better job on the defensive end of things going forward.

”Coach [Pat Riley] expects the world out of me,” Wade said Sunday. “He expects more out of me than anybody probably ever expected.”

”I’m not going to give him a pass,” Riley said of Wade. “He did not do the job defensively that he had to do. And we just have to face that fact.”

  • The Miami Dolphins and WQAM-560AM on Monday announced they have partnered in a multi-year deal that allows the radio station exclusive broadcasting rights of Dolphin games through at least the 2009 season. WQAM also will carry “The Cam Cameron Show” in-season and other special Dolphins programming year-round, the football team said in an e-mailed statement. Jimmy Cefalo, the voice of the Miami Dolphins, will handle the play-by-play of the games as well as host Dolphin shows. The full broadcast team will be announced at a later date. Terms of the deal were not announced.
  • Pat Riley is planning on making adjustments to the Heat starting lineup for game 2. Ira loves the idea of sliding Posey into that slot.

  • It’s make or break it week in South Florida. Either we have glorious success or fail miserably. Hopefully we pull the success card.
